After this update I don’t think I can recommend tumblr at all. Before this update I could not recommend you use tumblr on mobile as the x-kit browser extension is necessary to make the site functional. Tumblr once had value that other sites do not.

Meanwhile the site is still full of spambots and no effort has been made to curb the growing community of white nationalists. The appeal function for the new automatic flagging was temperamental before the update went live, and now it is completely non-functional. Staff continue to lie about non-existent notifications and site features that have not worked for years (including the backup feature that we were told to rely on to save our blogs before the removal of all flagged posts). Communication between tumblr and its users continues to be abysmal. Tumblr has discarded a community they’ve spent 10 years fostering with an automatic filter that makes it impossible to know whether or not your innocuous content can currently be seen by other users, and fails to target the genuine adult content as intended. Sometimes it feels like tumblr is run by a single coder alone in a basement. There are more features that don’t work than ones that do. The latest update ruins the functionality of what was already an infamously flawed website. i get that it’s hard to moderate these things but when i open the app and see “mental wealth month” at the top whatever that even means. not meme pages but whatever the tumblr equivalent is where you just post whatever’s in your head and it gets 80k notes. i manage to steer clear of them, mostly, but there was one uh pro-ana blog in my recommendations for no reason. also obviously the problematic communities. also the ads are so weird and i’m not gonna lie, some of them are funny but i had different variations of one ad that was something along the lines of ‘clear your bowels without a doctor’ and it was the most cursed disgusting pictures of bananas being cooked in the strangest way. the majority of posts on my dash are textposts.
ads every five posts is a bit ridiculous. like, as a website we have inside jokes that other social medias don’t have, we all have some sort of past superwholock harry potter emo edgy phase in common.īut for real. i obviously there are bad sides to it, but there’s a weird sense of. I like tumblr, there really isn’t any other social media like it. TL DR: Algorithm needs fixing and staff aren’t any help Nothing since replying to that email, which I was instructed to do once I checked everything on their list. I got one reply a week after I reached out to them which was obviously a standard issue mail-merge message to say “have you tried doing xyz”. Since then I have been able to fix what happened, but no thanks to them. I emailed them to ask for help, and even today I have yet to receive a reply on what to do to remedy it. Errors kept coming up and preventing me from having any kind of experience whatsoever. When I first downloaded tumblr again, I couldn’t do anything with my account. The second is also kind of self explanatory, but I feel the need to input my own experience also. Which is self explanatory if you live on the internet. But the two issues I have are the two biggest problems I think an app can face.įirst is the algorithm. I love the idea of it and it’s just an amazing community to be in (mostly). It honestly for me is a five star experience. Why tumblr’s not worth 5 stars now (tl dr included)
